About Amy

Berkeley Native

Amy was raised in Berkeley and attended public schools: Thousand Oaks Elementary, Martin Luther King Jr High School and finally Berkeley High School. Through her experience in public schools she learned from her diverse classmates that high expectations and differentiated support for students led to increased student achievement.

Education

Amy attended Pitzer College where she studied abroad in Kenya and created her own interdisciplinary major combining African American Studies, Philosophy, Women’s Studies and Religion.

She then attended Claremont University and earned a Masters in Education. She taught high school English and history for ten years. She went on to earn a Masters in Leadership at CAL’s Principal in Leadership Institute.

Leadership

Amy has over 15 years of leadership experience. She was a Vice Principal at Berkeley High School and Encinal High School, each for six years.  Since 2011 she is currently an Administrator in Hayward as Tennyson High School’s Youth Intervention Specialist. She was the Admin over the Counseling Departments and College and Career Centers at every school.

Experience

Amy is a graduate of UC Berkeley’s Independent Educational Consulting Certificate Program and a member of: the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA), National Association of College Counseling (NACAC), and The Western Association of College Counseling (WACAC). For the last seven years she has worked with students supporting their college application process.
